Paul Slagle, the owner of Firkin of Libertyville, IL, had been up and running for about 2yrs and reached a point that he wanted to gain a better handle on his walk in cooler’s organization. Inside of his cooler, Paul stores kegs for 32 tap handles, back-up kegs with a heavy rotation of taps constantly, while also storing kegs for aging and conditioning. His needs were for us to maximize the cooler space while making all of the kegs accessible and still have a clear working aisle. In the back left corner of the walk-in there is a 10” conduit for the beer lines that needed to be accounted for and planned around as well.
The Solution:
The walk-in cooler is 98” deep from the door wall to the back, and 145” from the left to right inside. With the beer control panels spread out around the perimeter, we needed to position as many kegs as possible in a balanced arrangement. Therefore we used our Saddle Deep (29” deep) keg shelf along the door wall and back walls. This allowed a 34” aisle between the 2 sections of shelving. The remainder of the walls have Single Deep keg shelving to maximize storage while remaining accessible.
