BLOG CATEGORY: IN THE SPOTLIGHT Happy Camper Pizzeria – Old Town ﷯ This is the third location that we have designed and installed shelving into for the guys who run the Homeslice & Paradise Park locations. This location has by far the largest cooler size and the most kegs stored of the three. The cooler is dual purpose in that it stores their food along with their kegs and cases. With the majority of their beer controls panels along the 19′-4″ wall at the rear of the cooler, their kegs were originally stacked 2 high by 3 deep down the entire wall. The main issue is how hazardous it was to try and access any kegs that needed to be swapped out after they were consumed. Not to mention, a long and tedious task to accomplish because of the multiple times each keg needed to be handled in a very narrow aisle space. ﷯ The rear wall in the walk-in cooler at Happy Camper – Old Town location. The first thing to address was the keg storage. As a single keg is the most heavy (and dangerous) item with the beer cooler, we needed to make sure that each keg had a flat surface to rest upon, whether that is a shelf or the floor. Also, each keg needed to remain accessible at all times to significantly reduce the time spent changing out the consumed kegs. The redesign also required storage for their bulk beer case items. By separating the kegs on the top from the kegs directly below them, with the keg shelf at 31-1/2″ above the floor, we essentially doubled their tappable keg storage immediately. The next step was to create a clear, safe and workable aisle by transitioning some of the kegs to the middle of the cooler as back-up storage, and using the space above them for case goods. ﷯ Plan view of the keg storage design for the walk-in cooler at Happy Camper. The customer was happy with the safe and functional design. The end result provides an uncluttered keg storage area, while opening up the central portion of their cooler’s space for additional capacity they had not realized previously. ﷯ The completed keg storage system install. ﷯ A clean and workable 32″ wide aisle for loading and unloading kegs. ﷯ Backside of back-up keg and case storage ﷯ Room for additional racking available in the center. ﷯ The Keg Lifter by Cooler Concepts ﷯ The Keg Lifter is Cooler Concepts’ latest product, and a new turning point for the direction of our company’s growth as a whole keg cooler storage solution provider. This is our well thought out keg lifter that has become available for order through AutoQuotes and your favorite Restaurant Equipment Dealers as of mid-July. First orders are shipping October, 2nd. Why produce a keg lifter? Working within beer cooler storage for over 25 years now, we’ve seen a number of attempts from others to develop lifting devices that just don’t fulfill all of the demands for keg beer handling. Either the footprint is too large to maneuver within a realistic operating beer cooler, the lift requires all of the kegs to remain off the floor to maintain clearance for their outriggers, or the lift doesn’t bring the keg up to a height that won’t require the operator to still lift or handle the keg onto the shelf. ﷯ The Keg Lifter The Keg Lifter by Cooler Concepts has a small 18″ turning radius, for the tightest of beer cooler aisles. With two 4″ fixed wheels in the front, and two 4″ swivel wheels (locking) in the rear, the lifter can easily pivot into position. Using the provided electric drill attachment, the user can swiftly bring the keg up to a maximum of 45″ off the floor, saving them from any injuries related to manually lifting a full keg. Our lift if constructed of welded steel components to insure a durable addition to your keg storage system. Challenge: Basement cooler with mixed usage. The rear of the cooler is dedicated to kegs, cases & cans of beer, and bottles of wine. Whereas, the front (more than three quarters of the cooler) is dedicated to food storage. There are 14 beers on tap, and the cooler is burdened with a tight walking aisle, blocked product, and wasted storage space. The Before: ﷯ Walk-in cooler beer storage area prior to installation of Cooler Concepts Solution: The shelving’s design will allow for a total of 36 kegs (floor and shelf), with the equivalent of 19 cases of beer per row stored above. The Double Deep (DKS / 33” deep) rear wall unit anchors both the left and right wall extensions; Single Deep (SKS / 17” deep) and Saddle Deep (YKS / 29” deep) respectively. The keg storage has two levels, one on the floor, and the second at 31-1/2” above the finished floor. Case storage at 63-1/2” is handled only above the Double and Single deep units due to the low ceiling and the evaporator unit being over the Saddle unit on the right. This arrangement, while not our most common, allowed the owners of Homeslice to not have to relocate any of their beer control panels, and maintains a minimum 2” airgap from the walls around all of the shelving. The shelving’s footprint uses less than the previously dedicated 93”D x 83-1/2”W x 84-1/2″H area at the rear of the cooler, storing more product safely while maintaining accessibility throughout and a clear 34” wide aisle ﷯. The After: ﷯ Beer storage area with Cooler Concepts’ custom keg shelving installed. ﷯ Beer Math: The Fractions That Save You Time, Space, & Money ﷯
